Mink EyelashesLadies who long for their eyes to project a little extra sparkle may be toying with the idea of going to their local salon to get some extensions. And, if like most of us, they’ve been keeping an eye on the latest Hollywood cosmetic trends it would be difficult to ignore the newest fad of mink eyelashes.
For the past few years or so all of the celebrity stylists have been raving about these fabulous mink eyelashes, with beauticians and celebrities alike constantly giving positive reviews, attesting to their durable yet soft and lightweight texture, natural looking appearance and deep luxurious velvet like finish.

But just because the Kardashians are firm fans of these lavish lashes it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll be the ideal for you. The makeup we choose reflects our personalities just as much as our clothes do and with everyone having their own distinct style, it might just be that are not the your best option.

Long before individual hit the high streets, strip lashes made of synthetic, poly silk or human hair materials were by far the most commonly used eyelashes extensions. A firm favourite among lash extensions newbies, they boast a relatively easy application and wide range of colors, lengths, thicknesses and styles. With so many options available it would be practically impossible not to find one type that is a perfect fit.

Contrary to individual extensions, strip lashes are great for ladies who have thin or short to no natural eyelashes at all. The strands of individual eyelashes are held together by a black or clear mother line, which is then glued directly to the skin on the eyelid right above the human lashline. While most training teaches professional technicians how to effectively and safely attach individual eyelashes to eyes with very little amount of human lashes, those unlucky ladies with virtually no own eyelashes may not be able to enjoy the luxury beauty treatment, and should opt for strip falsies instead. Brands like Minki Lashes, AIRA Signature Mink Eyelashes, and Velour Lashes have high quality authentic strips that can be reused and applied daily to accompany both natural and glamorous looks.

But if you merely want to add fullness to your own natural lashes then individual lashes are the way to go as they give you more control over where you place the lash cluster.

But if, on the other hand, you want a more permanent but natural looking product, individual mink extensions are a great alternative and you’ll want to find a reputable salon to carry out the procedure to ensure that you get the best results. A good professional eyelash technician will have undergone extensive training and will know which types of lash best compliment different eye shapes. Attaching individual lash strands can be quite time consuming and definitely requires a steady hand, as the eyelash extension glue is much stronger then the Duo lash glue you may have used to apply strip lashes. Brands like Xtreme Lashes and Lavish Lashes are well known for their quality synthetic and extensions and related products, as well as reputable professional salon training and certification.

If trying your hand at a home semi-permanent application of also known as flares or clusters (clusters or several eyelash strands attached together by a visible or invisible knot), start with a small demi or half falsies until you feel confident doing a full individual flare application. Consider practicing on cheaper synthetic versions until you become more comfortable with the application process. The glue you will be using is meant to last about 2 weeks and you should be aware that some unfortunate females have had severe reaction to the adhesive, so before you take the plunge you may want to get a patch test done at your local salon to screen for any allergic reactions.

Once your falsies have run their course make sure you know exactly how to remove as this procedure is just as important as the application. Any pulling or tugging can result in the loss of your natural eyelashes. If they’re individual flares, then use any oil you have to loosen the glue and then gently wipe away. If removing strip lashes that you want to reuse, try a non-oil based eye makeup remover, as if you get any oil on them it will make it extremely difficult for the glue to stick when you want to re-apply them for glam eyes on those special nights out. Minki Lashes, for instance, are known for having a durable lash base, but since they can be reused for up to 25 times, you should be careful and gentle with them as these babies are made of real (cruelty-free) mink!
